Goals of the Session

The concept of industry 4.0 corresponds to a new approach to organizing the industrial systems. It converges to virtual world and digital design. In the context of industry 4.0, the internet of things (IoT) and the digital twin (DT) technologies have been widely established and are becoming essential developments in the industry. The IoT defines the network of physical objects embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies in order to exchange data between connected devices/systems over the Internet. The DT is a digital representation of a physical system or object that becomes powerful and presents better anticipation with the integration of simulation and predictive modelling techniques. This technology is gaining more and more interest for decision helping and systems’ piloting.
Nowadays, the simulation of complex systems that require complex calculations and big data processing is becoming problematic due to the limitation of computer/server processing. Moreover, the interconnection of systems through Industry 4.0 paradigm imposes interoperability constraints between heterogeneous components. The emergence of these complexities has led to distributed simulation (DS) technologies.
This special session focuses on DS technologies and the systems/applications developed in the context of Industry 4.0/DT/IoT to discuss and share new opportunities and challenges with the community.
